My First Update !

Hi, this is my first attempt at blogging so I believe and hope that the more I blog about different things the better it will get! The reason for this is the team at 7 Media and my team think my knowledge is wasted because of all the travelling I do in my professional life, the people I meet that inspire me and just because I like to talk!

I hope to build a journal that people can relate to. That’s enough about me and my whys and wherefores!

I decided my first edition should be about my trip to Chicago. I was invited by American Crew to work at the ABS trade show in McCormick Place, you may have seen some pictures of the event on Facebook. The American Crew Team had an on stage demonstration every hour and then a runway of nine guys, three in each segment. The segments were Modern Man, Rockers and the Sport segment who were MMA Fighters. The atmosphere in the crowd when the models came out meant we never tired of it over the three days.

After the show I moved to work for the Art & Science company where I worked in their In Salon Barber Shop for two days and then I moved their stand alone Barber Shop in Logan Square. They have a fantastic team and the shops look amazing. Things like this always make me look at what’s going on in my company with fresh eyes, to see how we can do things better and how I can improve my team.

While I was in Chicago, my deadline with The Essential Journal was also due. The Essential Journal is a new free paper for men in Liverpool, I write an article about grooming and give tips on how to look good for up coming events. Richard and Thomas Singleton who produce the paper were very understanding and we managed to hit the deadline even with the time difference! This will be my third column and in this edition I touch on what I believe will be big this year. Mens hair will move to controlled texture and have a product story I’m calling the Invisible Trend, where we will have to look twice to see if there is product in the hair. This isn’t going to be an overnight change and I’m not saying that the aggressive short back and sides and beards are done, I think some men are finding their comfort zone and sticking to it but there are also some men that are willing to move on and try something different.

While I have been in Chicago I met Pete of Pete’s Barber Shop Chicago and he was saying he feels barbers are working hard now at becoming more like stylists, but I think that barbers are looking back more to the 1920’s up to the 1950’s and the craft of cutting men’s hair. I think we’re drawing more on the skills the barbers had back then when men went to their local barber shop and not a hair salon.

Let me know your thoughts?

I hope you found my first blog interesting and I’ll be posting again soon!
